Fast Relief Tips To Shrink Hemorrhoids At Home

Developing a hemorrhoid problem at some point is very common, particularly as we grow older. Although not dangerous, or a serious threat to your health, trying to shrink swollen hemorrhoids that are burning or itching can prove to be a stressful, awkward as sometimes agonizing experience. Especially when you have badly inflamed capillaries showing externally, this can make the simple act of defecation an unbearable experience. Swelling and pain is often seen and felt along with itchiness and sometimes bleeding. With an internal hemorrhoid, this kind of discomfort can also be felt when passing stools.

Ice

A terrific tip for fast relief from the itch and burn of hemorrhoid swellings, is to apply a cold compress to the troubled spot. This will cool the blood vessels and constrict them. Several application daily (up to 15 minutes at a time) will help decrease your symptoms. Do not simply grab a handful of ice and place it on your tender part. This would be dangerous. Cover the ice in a cloth or use a store bought compress before any application to the hemorrhoid area.

Witch Hazel

The extract of witch hazel (a natural herbal astringent) is widely used for the anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties it holds. It can be highly useful as a fast acting anti-itch agent, and to help shrink hemorrhoids to some extent. Because it is natural and safe you will find it commercially available in the form of suppositories, pads, creams and wipes. Hemorrhoid sufferers also put some witch hazel drops on a cotton ball and apply directly to the inflamed area for up to 10 minutes at a time. This can be done regularly for symptomatic relief and to help reduce swellings. If buying a bottle of witch hazel, it should be in alcohol free, pure extract form, to minimize any chance of causing an unwanted reaction.

Anti-inflammatory ointments and suppositories

Consult with your doctor regarding steroid containing topical ointments or suppositories for anti-inflammation, numbing and pain management. For quick relief during difficult times, such products (designed for short term use only) reduce the pain associated with swollen hemorrhoids.

Sitz Bath

A sitz bath can one of the best natural ways to prevent hemorrhoids deteriorating into a more severe case. Often people find that regular immersions help reduce swellings while the warm water (not overly hot) also significantly decreases any itching. This is such a popular hemorrhoid treatment. Repeated testimonials report on the relief giving effects and hemorrhoid shrinkage associated with regular daily sitz bath immersions.

In order to soak the buttocks, people use bath tubs, larger basins and toilet bowel attachments (that can be bought fairly cheaply). Soaking for a duration of up to 20 minutes at a time is an effective and relaxing way to treat your hemorrhoid condition.

Other Natural Treatments

While fast relief options are often needed, you must seek out further information on the recommended protocols on diet, hygiene and lifestyle changes that can help bring about a more lasting recovery. You will find more details on how to shrink hemorrhoids in the natural recommended way, covering these topics from authoritative sources online. A permanent recovery from a mild to moderate stage of hemorrhoids can often be achieved fairly quickly if you put knowledge of such home treatments into practice.

Surgery

In some cases, for whatever reason, natural treatments are not enough, and surgical intervention of some sort is required to shrink the hemorrhoid. If you have tried all the natural prescribed methods and medications and are not having any success, or you see that the hemorrhoid is becoming thrombosed, you must make an appointment as soon as possible with a doctor. If they feel surgery is required, they will send you to a specialist to get treatment.

Lifestyle Changes And Acid Reflux

Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is basically another name by which some people call heartburn. It becomes a little confusing because heartburn and GERD are basically caused by the same thingacid reflux.

Chest pains, burping, bitter tastes in the mouth, and regurgitation are just some of the symptoms of acid reflux and while it may happen to everyone at some point, not all cases become chronic. Chronic cases of acid reflux can result in GERD. When you have an unending cycle of acid reflux, it is best to get yourself checked by a doctor because prolonging the lining of your esophagus to the acids in your stomach can cause esophagus cancer. The chances of that happening are not very common since the acids can easily be neutralized with medication but once the esophageal lining becomes damaged, it become more difficult to treat.

Caution is better than cure. This is a phrase that many people utter when it comes to health but not every one really takes it to heart. There are many people who many experience frequent episodes of acid reflux but since the antacids may be working for them, they neglect what their bodies are trying to tell them and they continue with their current lifestyle and eating habits. Lifestyle and diet change are essential in preventing and curing acid reflux from frequently happening and eventually leading to something else more serious. Once the lower esophageal sphincter has been compromised, it is important to take measures to ensure that it the condition is not further agitated.

Food choices and the drinks we consume play a big role in acid reflux happening in the body. When we eat something that is oily, spicy, or too acidic, that can cause the acids in the stomachthe ones that are used to break down food while it is in the stomachto travel up the esophagus and that in turn can burn the lining of the esophagus. When we drink coffee, tea, sodas with high caffeine content, that too can trigger an acid reflux.

When trying to avoid or cure acid reflux, it is important to remember that medication is not always the answer, sometimes it just takes some adjustment on ones part to make sure that those gastric acids stay where they are supposed to.

Lifestyle changes also play an important role in preventing and possibly lessening if not completely curing acid reflux. Avoiding nicotine found in cigarettes, not eating too much, not laying down right after a meal, eating slowly, and wearing loser clothes all help in the avoidance of acid reflux. If your health allows for it, definitely try yoga for acid reflux! Reflux can be very painful and although curable, it is best that it is avoided.

Small changes can make a big world of difference not to mention the fact that some lifestyle changes needed to avoid acid reflux not only help in that department but also in other areas where your health may be compromised. At the end of the day, it is all up to you and if you are suffering from chronic acid reflux, the time to make that choice is now!

Here are some examples of stretching exercises that you can do at home.

Back Extensions

This kind of exercise aims to stretch and mobilize the spine through backward movement. The first thing to do is to lie down on your stomach and then prop your upper body through your elbows. This position will lengthen your spine. Just make sure to align your back and neck when doing this exercise. From the starting position, push down your hands so that you can arch your back. You will feel a stretching motion in your stomach when you start doing this position. Stay in the arching position for 5-20 seconds and then gently go back to the starting position. You can do this exercise for 8-10 times.

Knee Rolls

Lie down on your back and hold your bent knees together. This will serve as your starting position. You can place a book or a soft cushion such as a folded towel under your head to support it. Once your upper body is flat and relaxed on the ground, you can now start rolling your knees to your right side followed by the turning of your pelvis. Make sure to keep both of your shoulders on the floor while doing the exercise. After this, you can return to the starting position and then repeat the movement towards the left side. You can also do this exercise for 8-10 times. You can also put a pillow in between your knees to reduce pressure or friction.

Bottom to Heel Stretching

The starting position is to kneel down with your knees under your hips and place your hands under your shoulders. It is like doing a table position wherein all your four extremities are extended on the ground. When maintaining this position, it is important to always keep your neck long and not to lock the elbows. The next step is to move your buttocks downward towards your ankle carefully. You must hold the stretching position for a period of one deep breath and then you can go back to the starting point. You can use a mirror to ensure that all your positions are correct.

When performing these exercises, it is important to go gentle with the movement. If it is your first time to do it, it would be better to familiarize yourself with the different positions first. After that, you can test on how far you can go with the stretching.

Have Pain? One Pain Relief Tip That You May Not Usually Try

Yesterday I had horrible back pain. It is a result of my bad computer habits. I sit at my computer from 8-12 hours a day with my legs crossed, look at one computer on my right and type on another one on my left – and it finally caught up to my back. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t sit, lie down, or stand up. Heat wasn’t helping and cold wasn’t helping.

In short, I couldn’t find any pain relief.

I got to the point that I wanted to knock myself out so I could just stop feeling the pain. And then I discovered something…

I found King of Queens on TV, and despite my pain, I started laughing. Instantly my pain started to go away.

So, I told my husband that I wanted to watch comedy shows all night. No drama or anything else – just comedy. It seemed to help my back (although the massage and hot chocolate didn’t hurt either!) I went to paid PAIN FREE!
Laughter, The Drug Free Pain Reliever?

Today I felt a little better, but there was still pain. A few minutes ago my mom called me and I couldn’t hear her. I thought that something might be wrong but then suddenly I heard a small “Hello?” She was not aware that she had called me and she was trying to call someone else.

In any case, she started talking but I couldn’t hear her again. I said, “Mom, I can’ t hear you. I think your phone is cutting out.” She replied with, “I always talk into the wrong end of this thing.”

I started laughing so hard that I couldn’t even hear anything else she said. I laughed for at least a minute and then I finally gained some control to talk to her and she said in all seriousness, “Can you hear me now? I can hear you just fine!” and I burst out laughing again.

I’ve been laughing ever since.

But, I noticed that the pain that threatened to keep me in my chair moments before she called was gone, and I thought I better look this up to see if it was just feeling good or laughing that was causing my pain relief. Turns out it was laughter.

To be honest, I already knew this, but I just wanted to confirm what I felt.

And, while I learned that laughing with others is better than laughing alone for pain relief, I can definitely say that laughing at my mom and not with her was still a pretty good pain relief technique for my back. Tonight, I will try to laugh with my husband and see how much better I can feel through that.
Laughter Therapy For Pain Relief?

If laughing with others is good for both physical and mental pain, then laughter therapy should be amazing for pain relief.

I’m not sure about this therapy though. I have seen a few laughter therapy videos and I’m not sure if laughter therapy may be more annoying that beneficial. I am not a big fan of fake laughter – or fake anything, and I find that it is necessary in order to get started sometimes.
